Shahih Bukhari - 4539

Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Ibrahim bin Musa] Telah mengabarkan kepada kami [Hasyim] dari [Ibnu Juraij] dan [Atha`] berkata; dari [Ibnu Abbas radliallahu 'anhuma] bahwanya; Berhala-berhala yang dahulu di agungkan oleh kaum Nabi Nuh, di kemudian hari tersebar di bangsa 'Arab. Wadd menjadi berhala untuk kamu Kalb di Daumah Al Jandal. Suwa' untuk Bani Hudzail. Yaquts untuk Murad dan Bani Ghuthaif di Jauf tepatnya di Saba`. Adapun Ya'uq adalah untuk Bani Hamdan. Sedangkan Nashr untuk Himyar keluarga Dzul Kala'. Itulah nama-nama orang Shalih dari kaum Nabi Nuh. Ketika mereka wafat, syetan membisikkan kepada kaum mereka untuk mendirikan berhala pada majelis mereka dan menamakannya dengan nama-nama mereka. Maka mereka pun melakukan hal itu, dan saat itu berhala-berhala itu belum disembah hingga mereka wafat, sesudah itu, setelah ilmu tiada, maka berhala-berhala itu pun disembah." (HR. Bukhari: 4539)

Narrated Ibn ʿAbbas: All the idols which were worshipped by the people of Noah were worshipped by the Arabs later on. As for the idol Wadd, it was worshipped by the tribe of Kalb at Daumat-al-Jandal; Suwa' was the idol of (the tribe of) Murad and then by Ban, Ghutaif at Al-Jurf near Saba; Yauq was the idol of Hamdan, and Nasr was the idol of Himyr, the branch of Dhi-al-Kala.' The names (of the idols) formerly belonged to some pious men of the people of Noah, and when they died Satan inspired their people to (prepare and place idols at the places where they used to sit, and to call those idols by their names. The people did so, but the idols were not worshipped till those people (who initiated them) had died and the origin of the idols had become obscure, whereupon people began worshipping them.
